No ordinary soprano, Upshaw impresses with precision
One enduring custom of classical performance is that you almost always know what you’re going to hear. Programs are planned out months, even years, in advance, and you know it, at latest, when you pick up the program booklet and sit down in the hall. But Dawn Upshaw is no ordinary performer. So the fact that she and pianist Gilbert Kalish hadn’t disclosed their program beforehand did not deter a sold-out audience from packing Tufts University’s Distler Performance Hall on Thursday.
