Despite being beautifully sung and slickly produced, Monica's seventh record is numbingly predictable. The stylish vocalist deserves better material than the generic songs she works with here. “What a blessing it is to realize that the only thing keeping me from my destiny is me,’’ she says in “New Life Outro.’’ The affirmation-of-self theme has been repeated by many female singers recently. Unfortunately, Monica brings nothing new to the table.
