RIP You Crazy Diamond

syd.jpg

Syd Barrett, a founding member of Pink Floyd-- and the inspiration for songs like "Wish You Were Here"-- passed away at the age of 60 on Friday from complications of diabetes.

The creative singer-songwriter-guitarist-- responsible for much of the group's earliest, most psychedelic material-- left Pink Floyd in 1968 due to struggles with his mental health.

The surviving members of the Floyd issued a statement on David Gilmour's website as did avowed fan David Bowie who credited Barrett as an early inspiration.

If all you know about Floyd is "Another Brick in the Wall, Part 2" check out "Arnold Layne." It's groovy.
