Praise the Lord and Pass the Popcorn

Praise and worship superstar Kirk Franklin is headed for Hollywood.

"Church Boy" will tell the autobiographical tale of Franklin's early childhood abandonment by a teen mother, his precocious church choir direction as a pre-teen, his misspent teenage years and his self-made ascendance to music fame. (The Hollywood Reporter story didn't mention if it would detail his recent Oprah show confession of an addiction to porn that almost destroyed his marriage. Not judging, just saying).

Franklin will compose the soundtrack, natch, and the film is expected to hit theatres in 2008.

If you're a gospel fan you might want to read the good news I wrote about in Sunday's Globe concerning the genre's robust sales figures, bucking the downward trend in much of the rest of the industry.
