Ryan Adams, All-American

Continuing his slavish devotion to circa '70s West Coast bands, Ryan Adams will appear on the Jan. 16 "Letterman" show with America to celebrate the release, on the same day, of the band's double CD "Here & Now." Adams (above, in prophetic America-themed photo from 2003's "Gold") and a host of cred-heavy hitters -- Jim James from My Morning Jacket, Smashing Pumpkin James Iha, Fountains of Wayne's Adam Schlesinger, and Ben Kweller -- all contribute to the disc. And you thought they were just that wussy "Sister Golden Hair" band.
