The title of this blog entry is the first line of an email from Joyce Linehan, who among her sundry arts and culture endeavors manages the Pernice Brothers. What inspired Linehan to note that she had travelled far beyond the literal and figurative confines of her usual stomping grounds? One drunk Baton Rouge resident who, upon seeing the Pernice's merch guy in a Silver Jews t-shirt (a fine band, the Silver Jews), made a derogatory, expletive-laced comment about the Jews (not the fine band but the children of Israel). Linehan assures me that not everyone in the Louisiana club was a redneck, and that Joe had the loser ejected posthaste. In other Pernice Brothers news, the band plays at TT the Bear's on Sunday with the excellent singer-songwriter Elvis Perkins opening.
