Morrissey Interrupted

If your friends who love Morrissey are looking extra-mopey tomorrow they have good reason if they went to see him tonight at the Bank of America Pavilion. Strike that, tried to go see him tonight since Morrissey canceled the show midset, after about thirty minutes. (It was scheduled to be a 95 minute set.)
About twenty minutes in, Morrissey told the crowd he was suffering from a condition known as "Letterman throat." Seems the Mozzer had taped "The Late Show" show the previous evening--it airs this Friday-- and Dave's penchant for keeping The Ed Sullivan Theatre at "30 degrees below zero" left his throat in rough shape. "When I sing I crack," he said. "Emotionally, vocally. I know you'll forgive me."
The packed house didn't sound too forgiving when a Pavilion spokesperson appeared after the seventh song, "Let Me Kiss You," to say that Morrissey hadn't in fact gone to change his shirt-- he had ripped it off-- but had lost his voice, was not returning and the show would have to be rescheduled. The booing was loud and long and a sizable number of folks lingered for over a half hour letting out sporadic chants and boos.
Those who hung out heard a further announcement that all tickets for the show would be honored at the future date and to check the Live Nation website tomorrow for details.
Victoria Welch, spokesperson for promoter Live Nation, said she did not know if any concerns had been expressed about Morrissey's voice or health prior to the show and reiterated that the Live Nation website would have further details within 24 hours.
Up until the moment the erstwhile Smiths frontman left the stage, he seemed in pretty good spirits if occasionaly struggling for a few notes and suffering more from a mushy sound mix than audible vocal defects.
To add insult to injury, Morrissey's send-the-folks-home music? "That's Life" by Frank Sinatra. That might be his normal outro theme but given the circumstances someone should've thought twice before pumping that out over the PA.
