Record Companies Win First Fight
If the major labels wanted to set an example, they have set a pricey one. In the first case against a single downloader, the industry has won $220,000 in damages.
According to the AP the jury in the civil case in the U.S. District Court of Minnesota on Thursday found Jammie Thomas infringed copyrighted song recordings, and awarded damages of $9,250 for each of the 24 recordings cited.
