Boston Music Award Winners

The Boston Music Awards were handed out last night at the Orpheum Theatre in a two and a half hour ceremony that found metal bands mingling with power popsters and scene veterans rubbing elbows with hot upstarts.
It may not be the Grammys but the BMAs have grit and heart and both were on display last night in the dozen performances and off the cuff acceptance speeches.
The returns of Bobby Brown- who watched the Berklee City Music All-Stars perform a medley of his hits before coming on to sing "Roni"- and Extreme were well-received and writer-director-actor Christopher Guest (Spinal Tap's "Nigel Tufnel") got as warm a greeting as any of the musicians when he came on to introduce the special honor being bestowed on Aerosmith bassist, and cancer survivor, Tom Hamilton.
Hamilton also got off the best quip of the night. Observing the theatre where he reunited with his bandmates in 1984 he said "it feels like another room in my house, only smaller."
