Coldplay has launched a search via YouTube and local radio stations in six cities (including WFNX in Boston) for unknown bands to fill opening slots on the group's upcoming U.S. tour, which stops at the Garden Aug. 4. Hopefuls are being asked to upload their videos onto YouTube, where a panel of judges (a.k.a. radio station employees) will watch the clips and whittle the nominees down to fifteen. Next, fans will vote to reduce the group of finalists to three. Coldplay will watch the final trio of videos and choose the winning band. The prize is 20 minutes of stage time as warm-up act for one of the biggest bands in the world, $2,000, and ten tickets to the concert. To enter the contest, go to Coldplay’s tour page.
