Today the Beatles, their business organization Apple Corps Ltd., Cambridge-based video game company Harmonix, and MTV Games announced a partnership to create a new game that incorporates the influential band's catalog.

According to a press release, the as-yet-untitled game from the creators of "Rock Band" will be "an unprecedented, experiential progression through and celebration of the music and artistry of The Beatles. The game was creatively conceived with input from Sir Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr, along with Yoko Ono Lennon and Olivia Harrison, and enjoys their full blessing."

It will not be part of the "Rock Band" series but it will based on the same gaming platform. A firm release date isn't yet available but the tentative target is fourth quarter 2009.
