Pink and Sarah McLachlan getting at the "glorious sadness" of "Angel." Annie Lennox's emotional "Why." Alicia Keys, Queen Latifah - rapping!!- and opera diva Kathleen Battle exuberantly giving it up for multitasking ladies everywhere on "Superwoman." Were there even dudes on the American Music Awards last night?

Of course there were, including top winner Chris Brown, a particularly smooth Ne-Yo, and capable host Jimmy Kimmel. But there was just something about the women- including Beyonce and Christina- that was sizzling on high last night. (There were exceptions of course, but we're accentuating the positive this morning).

Random observations:

-Anyone else uncomfortable when Scott Weiland introduced Pink's "Sober"?

-Something about the New Kids on the Block doing a superfast segue from their enjoyable contemporary hit song "Single" to the oldies seemed ill-conceived.

-Kudos to Kanye for being gracious in his acceptance speech.
