A listen to WBCN back in the day: links to archived broadcasts
WBCN may have fallen off the rock 'n roll relevance radar some years ago, but during its heyday there were few stations that matched it for cutting-edge potency. The station played a roster of rock heavyweights ever since it switched from a classical format in 1968, beginning its new life with an anthemic track from Cream.
Charles Laquidara hosted a 1988 anniversary show that rekindled memories of some of those early moments. Michael J. Andrade of Woonsocket, Rhode Island, recorded that and other shows for streaming podcasts on WSLO.FM
In 1981, U2 stopped into the WBCN studios for an interview DJ Ken Shelton, archived at the fansite U2source.com
