Wow, tough day. We promise to post some upbeat news shortly.

Guitar master, innovator, inventor, and influence Les Paul passed away today at the age of 94.

Here's Globe staffer Mark Feeney's obituary detailing Paul's many achievments from pioneering multi-track recording to his electric guitar innovations to his gold albums and hit singles like "Vaya Con Dios."

Rolling Stone also has a nice obit, that includes this statement from Joe Satriani: "Les Paul set a standard for musicianship and innovation that remains unsurpassed. He was the original guitar hero, and the kindest of souls."
