Live Nation Offers "Club Passport"

Starting today concert promoter Live Nation will be offering something called the "Club Passport."

Here's the pitch from the press release: "For a limited time only, concert fans can buy The Live Nation Club Passport for $49.99, All-In and No Fees, and see every show at Live Nation clubs in their city for the rest of the year, subject to availability. If you're a Live Nation Club Passport holder, and the show's not sold-out, you're in! The Live Nation Club Passport is available only at http://www.livenation.com." (According to a Live Nation spokesperson that "limited time" is until the end of the year).

In Boston, the participating venue is the House of Blues on Lansdowne St.

A list of available shows will be posted at Livenation.com/Passport every Monday and you can reserve a ticket. (Show info can also be found by following Live Nation on Facebook or Twitter). Then, you show up to the House of Blues box office with your Passport number and an ID and you're in.

So, in other words, if a show is sold out already- like, say Regina Spektor or Them Crooked Vultures- the Passport doesn't get you in. But if there are still tickets available it does. Mostly.

Here's where the big caveat with the Passport comes in. At the top of the promotion on the website it says "Participating Shows." So, technically "every" show that is not sold out will not be part of the Passport promotion. (The decision of which shows are eligible is apparently up to the bookers).

Here's the list of the shows being offered right now:

Fri, 09/18/09
8 p.m. Face To Face

Sat, 09/19/09
8 p.m. Lebowski Fest - Movie Party with Black Diamond Heavies

Sun, 09/20/09

Sat, 09/26/09
8 p.m. KMFDM

Sat, 10/03/09
7 p.m. In Flames with Between the Buried and Me, 3 Inches of Blood, The Faceless

Sun, 10/04/09

Tue, 10/06/09
8 p.m. Brazilian Girls

Thu, 10/08/09
8 p.m. Five Finger Death Punch

Fri, 10/09/09
8 p.m. The Bravery

Sat, 10/10/09
7 p.m. The Psychedelic Furs & Happy Mondays with Islands

Each Monday the list will be updated. But FYI there are a couple of shows that fall within this time frame and are not sold out but are not on this list. (Apparently Brandi Carlile on Oct. 2 and the Mars Volta on Oct. 7 are not "participating shows.")

Presuming you want to attend a few of the more than dozen shows that are on the list, $49.99 is a bargain. But you have to stay on top of the reservation because it's a first-come, first-serve situation. So if you're not quick, you could've bought the Passport but still not get a ticket.

For a full list of shows remaining for 2009 check out the House of Blues site.

("Sound Effects" did a little investigating into shows that we're interested in and there are still tickets available at the moment for everything from Al Green on Oct 15 to the Avett Brothers on Oct. 18 to Roger Daltrey on Nov. 8. If you could get them all that would be over $150 worth of tix for $50. Since they all fall outside the current date window, we have no idea if any or all of them will be part of the "participating shows.")
