Joan Anderman checks in with this tidbit:

Time to add a new name to the illustrious ranks of superstars who find that the quiet pleasures of retirement just don't suit them (or their bank accounts). Garth Brooks, who has sold 128 million albums in the United States and is the top-selling solo act of all time, announced today that he's dusting off his Stetson, nine years after bowing out of the spotlight to spend more time at home with his three daughters.

"We're going to take the retirement roof off over our head," the 47-year-old country singer said at a press conference this morning in Nashville. "I feel taller already." The rumor mill is buzzing with talk of a Las Vegas residency, and there is a news conference scheduled for later today at the Wynn Las Vegas hotel.
