There were hints that Bim Skala Bim, a local ska-punk band that thrilled fans for nearly two decades starting in the early '80s, might be reuniting. For their first performances in eight years, they opened one of the Mighty Mighty Bosstones' Hometown Throwdown shows last December and a few nights later played a New Year's Eve bash at the Middle East.

Now it's official: Bim Skala Bim will be back together for a limited string of New England dates:

Aug. 5: Jerkys Bar (Providence)
Aug. 6: The Middle East Downstairs (Cambridge)
Aug. 7: The Beachcomber (Wellfleet)
Aug. 8: The Webster Underground (Hartford)

Don't call it a full-fledged reunion just yet, though. This note on the band's website doesn't sound terribly official: "...you may want to check with the club/school/theater before rushing off to a show just to make sure the show's still on." You've been forewarned.
