When Nick Lowe used the term “pure pop for now people” he could have been aptly describing Fitz and the Tantrums’ second record. The LA band’s debut, “Pickin’ Up the Pieces,” was a stylish (albeit somewhat mannered) slice of blue-eyed soul, and they wisely broaden the musical palette here. The group goes full-bore pop by adding bigger choruses, alluring sonic textures, and electronic rhythms. It’s not a commercial compromise because this band was built to provide these types of small aural epiphanies filled with earworms and feel-good vibes.
