R.E.M. retrospective looks at a trailblazing career
When R.E.M. called it quits a few months back, the response was somewhat muted. The consensus seemed to be that the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame-ensonced rockers who sold over 85 million records were a terrific band whose, if not best, biggest days were behind them. With the release today of the 40-song, two-disc retrospective “Part Lies, Part Heart, Part Truth, Part Garbage, 1982 - 2011’’ makes a good case for the latter-day R.E.M.
