Piano Sonatas (Haydn), Marc-Andre Hamelin, piano; Hyperion. Venturing into repertoire you may actually have heard before, the formidable Canadian pianist brings off these Haydn sonatas with sparkling technique and restrained poetry to spare. And don't worry, Hamelin has not sworn off arcana. His taming of Alkan's ferocious Concerto for Solo Piano is also out this year on Hyperion.
