When I was a little girl we lived near a farm. Mr. Brown was the farmer and they raised turkeys , chickens and corn. My mom would hand me a couple of dollars and I would walk to the farm to get some pot pies for supper and maybe some ears of corn if was in season.
After farmer Brown's death the land was sold to a developer who held on to the property for many years before building houses on it. Year after year the sign for the for the farm faded, weeds took over the coops and the land was brown from lack of care.
Where the farm once stood is now a neighborhood filled with million dollar homes, children on bikes and scooters and the only memory of the farm is the turkey's who come every year at this time and take over the neighborhood.
On the way to school each morning my kids and I go too see the turkeys who walk the the streets of my old neighborhood. The kids feed them bread and cereal and make gooble gobble noises from out the windows of the car. We giggle at there funny faces and big beautiful feathers and wonder to ourselves what are they doing here?
Where do they sleep? What do they eat? Will they bite us? after a few minutes we hurry on our way to school and work until tomorrow when we can visit the turkeys again.
