Back when I was a wee undergrad at Northeastern University (who, as I'm typing this, are hours away from their annual Beanpot beatdown at the hands of BU--more on that tomorrow), I used to snowboard. OK, I only went a few times, but I enjoyed it. Not as much as skateboarding, but still.

Flash-forward to present day, and here I am at RadioBDC. The Drafters are hitting the hills twice a month and I want in. Add to that the fact that I have two kids who are at prime learn-a-winter-sport age, and off to Waterville Valley I went this weekend.

I was feeling optimistic. Dan Egan was joining us this weekend and gave me some quick advice on Friday afternoon:

I arrived at the mountain bright and early Saturday morning, sent the kids off on a private lesson, geared up, and joined in on a group lesson. See how happy I looked?

That smile didn't last for long. Now, I've never been a very athletic guy. Average at best. But put me on a pair of skis and "average" becomes "abysmal." Let's just say some of my trips down the bunny hill could've been taken right out of this video:

.

People, I FELL OFF THE DAMN J-BAR. TWICE.

Needless to say, I think the next Drafters outing I join in on will be with a snowboard, not a pair of skis. The bright side: my kids did great and had a blast. And I got to hang with Dan Egan!
