Boston Globe deputy metro editor Mike Bello stopped into the RadioBDC studio to update Henry and Julie on some grisly local news this morning.

Bello reported that a five-alarm fire broke out in East Boston last night, displacing 21 residents. Investigators are still searching for the cause of the fire, Bello said.

More than 100 firefighters battled the blaze, and while no one was killed, the below-freezing temperatures made it difficult to contain, according to Boston Fire Department spokesman Steve MacDonald, who is quoted in the Boston Globe's story. Two buildings, 43-45 Orleans St. and 263-265 Sumner St., were damaged when a fire broke out on the third floor of the Sumner St. building at around 11:30 p.m.

A man will be arraigned this morning in Roxbury District Court on two counts of rape. Police say a man attacked two women, one early Saturday morning, another early Sunday morning, and allegedly raped them in an abandoned property on Washington Street.

Finally, a horrific attack in Weymouth resulted in the death of Ronald Beaudry, 58, who investigators say was bludgeoned to death by his 20-year-old son. Investigators believe that a propane gas canister and a piece of PVC pipe were used in the assault, which took place yesterday afternoon around 2 p.m. and was the result of a domestic dispute. According to Bello, neighbors heard cries for help before police arrived.

Police found Beaudry lying in the road in front of his home and died later at South Shore Hospital, according to the Boston Globe. His son, Michael Beaudry, was arrested and charged with murder, and will be arraigned this morning in in Quincy District Court.
