Boston Globe deputy metro editor Mike Bello stopped by the RadioBDC studios to chat about the news of the day, including a meeting in Plum Island this morning regarding homes damaged by high tides and this year's series of intense storms.

According to Bello, who spoke to Henry Santoro and Julie Kramer on air, the sand has been eroded from the beach over the past decade due to rising sea levels, and the situation has become "treacherous," as close to 30 homes are in danger of collapse. Today's meeting is, in part, a way for residents and officials to decide what to do next to either save the houses or tear them down. Two houses were demolished this weekend, reported Boston.com.

The papal conclave convenes tomorrow when 115 Cardinals from around the world huddle in seclusion to decide on who will be the next pope.

Chatter about Boston's own Cardinal Sean O'Malley taking the job has jumped the Atlantic, reported Bello, who noted that the Italian press likes him as much as Bostonians do.

"By all accounts, people in [the Boston Archdiocese] love him and they would hate to lose him," said Bello.
