Since the FBI launched a publicity campaign Monday to find the stolen Gardner art, tips have been flowing in about the paintings' whereabouts, said Mike Bello on RadioBDC this morning.

Bello joined Henry Santoro and Julie Kramer in the studio today to explain that while the FBI now knows who took the paintings, one of the biggest art heists in US history, they still don't know where the paintings are.

The stolen art includes works by Vermeer and Rembrant, and it was a tip from a citizen in 2010 that jumpstarted the case again, which hadn't seen much movement since the 1990s. The focus of the investigation is on a mobster, Robert Gentile, with ties to Boston and Philadelphia, and finding the art.

Bello reported that first and foremost, the FBI wants the art back.

Meanwhile, the man once known as "Clark Rockefeller," (real name Christian Gerhartsreiter) is on trial in Los Angeles. A former neighbor testified yesterday that in 1985 he had seen Gerhartsreiter digging in his yard at the time he allegedly murdered, dismembered and buried Jonathan Sohus.

His trial continues today.

Listen to the whole interview here, and be sure to keep an eye on the Boston Globe's investigation of the Gardner theft.
