Boston Police Commissioner Ed Davis announced his resignation at a press conference today, reported Boston Globe deputy metro editor Mike Bello during an interview on RadioBDC.

Davis will leave the office he's held for nearly seven years in 30 to 60 days. The timeframe will depend on whether the Red Sox make it to the World Series, said Bello.

Davis played a large role in dealing with the aftermath of the Boston Marathon bombings, and has been lauded for a decrease in violent crime in the city. Some, however, feel he could have done more to encourage diversity within the department, said Bello.
