Sushi on Newbury; the stars shine at Volante Farms; mysterious MC Medici coming soon

Urban Daddy reports that Ikura sushi has opened at 254 Newbury St. It’s run by a former sushi chef for the New England Patriots (Tom Brady deserves only the freshest fish), and it features more than 100 varieties of maki.

We’re told to expect a new name and a winter opening date for the hotel restaurant formerly dubbed MC Medici. The mystery restaurant at the Renaissance Boston Waterfront is ambitious: It’s run by James Beard award-winners and Top Chef Masters stars Mark Gaier and Clark Frasier, the team behind Maine’s venerable Arrows.

Babson College’s entrepreneurs-in-residence and TV stars Andrew Zimmern (“Bizarre Foods”) and Gail Simmons (“Top Chef”) were at Needham’s Volante Farms last week for a Culinary Experience on the Farm, part of Babson’s Food Day festivities.
