Savvor Restaurant & Lounge is a new Leather District spot serving Caribbean and Southern food. Expect a sassy take on regional specialties from a chef, Carey Dobies, who previously worked at UpStairs on the Square. The staff has a sense of humor -- a recent “Walking Dead”-themed night, for instance, brings blood sausage and zombie cocktails along with a viewing of the show. Friends sit before tables groaning with food. They are wearing jewel tones that complement the turquoise upholstery. The space is lair-like, with plenty of narrow spaces, brick walls, dangling lights, and flickering candles. Beyonce and Pharrell are on the soundtrack. The menu offers Southern staples such as gumbo, shrimp and grits, chicken and waffles, and a giant chicken-fried pork chop.
