The elusive British street/graffiti artist who keeps his identity secret appears to be leaving his marks on our city. At least the Bostonist thinks that's the case. The website claims Banksy painted the side of a building in Allston before headed to Central Square in Cambridge. If he really is here, he might want to think twice before tagging any more walls. You'll recall what happened to Shepard Fairey. Last week, a street artist believed to be Banksy painted several walls in San Francisco. The timing of his supposed visit to the United States is curious. Is this some sort of attempt to drum up interest in his new movie, "Exit Through the Gift Shop" (which the Globe's Ty Burr gave four stars)? For further reading, check out The New Yorker's 2007 profile of Banksy.
