Ex-ICA curator Jessica Morgan promoted at Tate Modern
Jessica Morgan, who was chief curator at the Institute of Contemporary Art before it moved to its new waterfront home, and who organized the Damian Ortega exhibit for the new ICA last year, has just been appointed Daskoulopoulos Curator, International Art at Tate Modern in London. Before her influential stint at the ICA, Boston, Morgan was curator at the Institute of Contemporary in Chicago, where she organized the first UK and US survey of the work of Mona Hatoum, an artist now safely ensconced in the firmament of contemporary art stars. Morgan?s Boston/Cambridge roots go way back: she was also a curatorial fellow at the Fogg Art Museum, at Harvard University. Prior to this new promotion, she had been at Tate Modern, one of the world?s most popular art museums, for eight years as curator of contemporary art. In that time she organized major shows of such artists as John Baldessari and Martin Kippenberger. A Gabriel Orozco show she has been working on will open at Tate Modern in January, 2011.
