More Oprah Love for Mass.
Monica Jorge is the mom from Ayer who, after giving birth in 2007, had all four of her limbs amputated when a horrific infection ravaged her body. Her story was first reported in the Globe, and later she appeared on Oprah's couch. Apparently, her story stuck with Oprah, because the show invited Jorge and her husband and two children back, this time for one of its "Ultimate Wildest Dream" episodes.
"Everyone who works here at Harpo was moved by her story," Harpo spokeswoman Bridgette Maney told us yesterday. "We called her the Warrior Mom."
Maney wouldn't reveal the surprise Jorge gets (the show was taped a few weeks ago and Jorge has been sworn to secrecy). But in a preview clip, Jorge is seen on stage, and celebrity interior designer Nate Berkus brings out a wooden chair. Oprah screams, "We are buying you a . . . " and then the clip ends. We've got a pretty good guess what comes next, but we'll wait and see.
If that's not enough Oprah news for you for one week, today's show will also have the owners of Centerville Pie Company. The Cape Cod "pie ladies," as they're known, got plenty of buzz a year ago when Oprah tasted, and raved about, their chicken pie while in the area for Eunice Kennedy Shriver's funeral. Co-owners Laurie Bowen and Kristin Broadley will be on the same "Ultimate Wildest Dream" show as Jorge (It airs locally Friday at 4 p.m. on WCVB, Channel 5). But once again Maney was mum about details.
