"The American Musical in the 21st Century'' will be the subject of a public conversation on Nov. 30 between Broadway composer Stephen Schwartz and Diane Paulus, artistic director of the American Repertory Theater.

The event will be free but requires tickets, which can be obtained at http://www.americanrepertorytheater.org/americanmusical. It will take place at Oberon, the Cambridge nightclub the ART uses as a second stage (most recently for "Cabaret'').

Schwartz wrote the music and lyrics for "Wicked'' (which returned to the Hub this fall for a stint at the Boston Opera House), "Godspell,'' and "Pippin.'' Paulus directed the Public Theater's Tony-winning revival of "Hair,'' and also, at the ART, "Johnny Baseball,'' "Best of Both Worlds,'' and "The Donkey Show.''

About the blog

"Media Remix" is where couch potatoes meet pop culture criticism. What does Honey Boo Boo say about class issues in America ? Is The Real Housewives anti-feminist? Does Lady Gaga empower gay fans, or patronize them? And where'd I put the remote control? If you love knowing about the latest in movies, TV, music and social media - and analyzing the politics of The Apprentice - grab a seat with "Media Remix."
