MMs4ep401_20100414_1903-305.jpg"Mad Men" won't be back on AMC until early 2012 because of a contract dispute with the show's creator.

The network announced the delay Tuesday after numerous reports about talks between Lionsgate, the studio that produces the hit series entering its fifth season, and its creator-executive producer, Matthew Weiner.

"Mad Men" has typically aired in the summer or early fall, so the delay means the drama will be at least four to five months late in reappearing on TV

Jon Hamm (above) is the show's star, playing an advertising executive who is also a divorced family man working in Manhattan in the 1960s.

Globe TV critic Matthew Gilbert has called the show the best thing on TV, as he did in this piece on the top shows in 2010.
