The Watertown-based New Repertory Theatre announced yesterday that it will open its 2011/2012 season with a production of "Rent,'' the musical by Jonathan Larson.

"Rent,'' which won the Pulitzer Prize and a Tony Award, will run at the New Rep from Sept. 4 to Sept. 25. (In the summer of 2009, a national touring production of "Rent'' played at the Colonial Theatre in Boston).

The rest of the New Rep's schedule will include Lisa Kron's "In the Wake'' (Oct. 9-Oct. 30), Donald Margulies' "Collected Stories'' (Nov. 27-Dec. 18), Yasmina Reza's "Art'' (Jan. 15-Feb. 5, 2012), Stephen Sachs' "Bakersfield Mist'' (Feb. 26-March 18, 2012), Eugene O'Neill's "Long Day's Journey Into Night'' (April 1-April 22, 2012), and "Little Shop of Horrors,'' the musical by Alan Menken and Howard Ashman (April 29-May 20, 2012).
