You can make art out of anything. Just ask Chris Devidal, the creator of Sheen Family Circus, a brand-new blog that mashes up Family Circus comic illustrations with quotes taken from embattled actor Charlie Sheen's bizarre rants from the past few days.
Replacing the captions on Family Circus panels is not a new idea, but using Sheen's quotes under them is a stroke of genius. "I was just reading through the quotes and, probably like everyone else, couldn't believe the [expletive] that was coming out of his mouth," said Devidal, 27, who works at an advertising agency in Austin, Texas.
The blog went up Monday night, Devidal said, and within 24 hours it had more than 100,000 visitors.
One person who probably hasn't seen the site yet is Family Circus creator Bil Keane. "I was predicting by lunchtime I was going to get a call from Bil Keane's lawyers," Devidal said. Until Devidal is ordered to take down the site, the whimsy can be enjoyed at sheenfamilycircus.blogspot.com. (Note: Some of the language -- all of it taken from Sheen's recent interviews -- is off color.)
Not to be outdone, Buzzfeed has turned Sheen's quotes into captions for New Yorker cartoons. (Same language warning applies.)
