What happens in Vegas doesn’t always stay in Vegas. Sometimes it comes to Cambridge.

The American Repertory Theater is teaming up with the Smith Center, a performing arts center in Las Vegas, to co-produce a world-premiere adaptation of Shakespeare’s “The Tempest,” with magic designed by the illusionist Teller — as in “Penn and” — and music by Tom Waits. Adapted and directed by Aaron Posner and Teller, who previously collaborated on a production of “Macbeth,” the show will begin in Las Vegas and come to the Loeb Drama Center in May 2014. Teller will not perform in the production, which has attracted the interest of other regional theaters and may become a touring production, the ART said. Full story for BostonGlobe.com subscribers.
