NEW YORK (AP) — The play about the New York Yankees has struck out on Broadway.
Producers said Thursday that ‘‘Bronx Bombers’’ will play its final performance March 2, lasting less than a month at the Circle in the Square Theatre. Eric Simonson’s play opened Feb. 6.
It starred real-life husband and wife Peter Scolari and Tracy Shayne as Yogi Berra and his wife Carmen. The play also featured actors playing Babe Ruth, Mickey Mantle, Lou Gehrig, Joe DiMaggio and Derek Jeter.
Last week, it recouped only a quarter of its potential box office take of $733,260.
‘‘Bronx Bombers’’ was the third sports-related play to make it to Broadway from producing team Fran Kirmser and Tony Ponturo, following ‘‘Lombardi,’’ about Vince Lombardi, and ‘‘Magic/Bird,’’ about Earvin ‘‘Magic’’ Johnson and Larry Bird.
