Wang Center gets new name today

Goodbye, Wang Center for the Performing Arts. Hello, Citi Performing Arts Center.

Three weeks after paying $34 million for the naming rights to the Wang Center, New York-based Citigroup will today unveil the new logo and name for the nonprofit institution. Citigroup and Wang representatives say that the new signage will be in place on Tremont Street today.

The Citi Performing Arts Center will continue to operate the 3,600-seat Wang Theatre (which will keep its name), the 1,600-seat Shubert Theatre, and an arts program for students. The center plans to launch a new website today.

The new logo, designed by the New York firm Lippincott Mercer, features "Citi" in dark blue letters, with orange, light blue, and green letters spelling out "Performing Arts Center."
