Saugus: Kowloon Restaurant, Route 1 north, celebrates its 57th anniversary Wednesday, 6 p.m.-midnight, with a fund-raiser to benefit the Joey Fund for cystic fibrosis research and the Massachusetts Restaurant Association's Education Foundation college scholarships. Harold Melvin & the Bluenotes, a 1970s R&B group, will perform. Tiny Tavares, a spin-off from Tavares, plays downstairs, while blues legend James Montgomery plays at Maddy's, 1639 Broadway (at routes 1 and 99). HOUSE TOUR
Gloucester: Eight homes in East Gloucester will open their doors Saturday, 11 a.m.-4 p.m., for the "Homes for the Holidays" self-guided tour. Many of the homes will be professionally decorated for the holidays. The tour is sponsored by the Cape Ann Chamber of Commerce businesswomen's division to support the Carolyn O'Connor Scholarship. $25 in advance; $30 day of the tour. Portsmouth, N.H.: US Representative Jay Inslee will read and sign his book "Apollo's Fire: Igniting America's Clean Energy Economy," Friday at 7 p.m. at Riverrun bookstore, 20 Congress St. Inslee, a Democrat, has represented the First Congressional District of Washington state since 1998 and is the primary sponsor of the New Apollo Energy Act, the goal of which is a clean energy future. Marblehead: me & thee coffeehouse at the Unitarian Universalist Church, 28 Mugford St., will hold a Cajun dance party with the Squeezebox Stompers, Friday at 8:30 p.m. The acoustic roots trio band plays a mix of country blues, Zydeco, Celtic, Cajun, ballads, and some original tunes. Together they play 15 instruments, including several kinds of fiddles, banjos, and accordions. Captain Fiddle will teach the two-step Cajun waltz. Refreshments available.
