Crustaceans, myriapods, and chelicerates, oh my

Email|Print| Text size + By Luke O'Neil

The title "Arthropods: Creatures That Rule" sounds awesome at first, as in "Creatures that rule, dude!" But after reading a little more on the Harvard Museum of Natural History website, you'll realize they mean ruling the earth - forever. Yikes. Consider: "Evolving for more than 500 million years, these creatures range in size from giant king crabs to microscopic mites, represent over 80% of all animal species, and have colonized every corner of the planet." Sounds like the trailer to a horror movie (check out the thorn bug, right). At this exhibit you'll see specimen displays, live animals, videos, and definitely not us. 9 a.m.-5 p.m. $6-$9. Harvard Museum of Natural History, 26 Oxford St., Cambridge. 617-495-3045. hmnh.harvard.edu
