"Chess" is a rare theatrical opportunity to enjoy a) music written by former members of ABBA; b) the romantic world of championship chess; and c) a full bar. The music was written by Björn Ulvaeus and Benny Anderson with lyrics by Tim Rice (who has also worked with Andrew Lloyd Webber and wrote the lyrics for "A Whole New World" from Disney's "Aladdin"), and is loosely based on chessmasters Victor Korchnoi and the recently passed Bobby Fischer. The production opens tonight at the Turtle Lane Playhouse, presented with cabaret-style table seating and food and drink. 8 p.m. $25-$27.50. Turtle Lane Playhouse, 283 Melrose St., Newton. 617-244-0169. turtlelane.org [N.Z.] >
