"Dark Night of the Soul"
Ana Maria Pacheco's haunting sculptural installation "Dark Night of the Soul" (above) was completed in 1999 and inspired by the figure of St. Sebastian, but this wood passion play viscerally conjures up the specter of American torture committed in the name of the "war on terror," from Abu Ghraib to CIA waterboarding. At the Danforth Museum, Framingham, through May 18. 508-620-0050, danforthmuseum.org

"Urban Perspectives"
Warren Mather makes gorgeous photo transfers of landscapes - Commonwealth Avenue, Downtown Crossing - onto wheels of clay, making Boston spin like an LP. His sky murals, framed by the silhouettes of buildings, also enchant. Mather's "Urban Perspectives" is at Judy Ann Goldman Fine Art, 14 Newbury St., through March 15. 617-424-8468, judygoldmanfineart.com
