The Double Edge Theatre is presenting ''The Illustrious Return of Don Quixote'' at its expansive property in Ashfield. |
Five years after mounting its original spectacle "Don Quixote," Double Edge Theatre is revisiting the Knight of the Woeful Countenance for a new set of adventures called "The Illustrious Return of Don Quixote."
"We returned to Cervantes's novel," says Double Edge founder and artistic director Stacy Klein, "because the 900-page book is an incredible, marvelous theatrical source, which speaks boldly to our times, and the characters of Quixote and Sancho, played by Carlos Uriona and Matthew Glassman, have bewitched audiences to the extent that they keep asking for more."
"Don Quixote" was originally staged at the company's 105-acre home in Ashfield called The Farm, with the action taking place in barns, by a lake, and in a field. The success of that performance led director Klein and her company to adapt the show as an indoor production called "the unPOSSESSED," which played at the American Repertory Theatre's Zero Arrow Theatre, New York's La MaMa E.T.C., and the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., among 15 other cities in the United States and abroad.
Through Aug. 23. Tickets: $20. 866-811-4111, www.doubleedgetheatre.org
