Seeing the light
When you win the lottery, we recommend buying a villa in Tuscany. But until your gondola comes in, you can pretend you're in Italy at "The Light in the Piazza" at the Stanford Calderwood Pavilion. This Tony-winning musical by Craig Lucas and Adam Guettel takes place in 1953 Florence, where an American mother (Amelia Broome, left) and daughter (Erica Spyres) are vacationing. This is Italy, so it's only a matter of time before a handsome young Florentine falls in love with the daughter. Strings, of course, are attached - in the story as well as in the orchestra and the flying hat trick. 8 p.m. (show runs through Oct. 18). $30-$54, $5 student and senior discount (except on $30 seats). Stanford Calderwood Pavilion, 527 Tremont St. 617-933-8600. www.speakeasystage.com ![]()
