Zanele Muholi calls herself an "activist photographer." The South African explores issues of sexuality in a hidden black lesbian world by documenting and providing intimate portrayals of their lives and relationships in South African townships. Below: "Madam and Minah." Muholi has said, "My aim is not to make nice pictures but to crack open the issues." Wednesday's program is "Is'Khathi," named for a Zulu expression that means "period in time" or "time of the month." The photographer and video artist is the Ida Ely Rubin Artist-in-Residence at MIT today through March 6, and Wednesday's talk will feature her work. 7 p.m. Free. MIT's Broad Institute Auditorium, 7 Cambridge Center, Cambridge. 617-253-2787. mit.edu/arts
