SUMMER STAGES This dynamite little festival at Concord Academy is jam-packed with promising, one-night-only performances. Armitage Gone! Dance opens the festival July 9 with three works of edgy classicism spanning 30 years of Karole Armitage's career, including an excerpt from her latest work, "Mashup." July 11, Summer Stages presents the world premiere of "The Disappearing Woman," a movement/media collaboration. 166 Main St., Concord. 978-402-2339. www.summerstagesdance.org
BATES DANCE FESTIVAL The standout of the 27th season's programming is the July 31 and Aug. 1 engagement of Bebe Miller's new "Necessary Beauty." July 24 and 25, the festival presents Tania Isaac Dance in Isaac's promising new "stuporwoman," a tongue-in-cheek glimpse at parenting in the 21st century featuring composer Michael Wall, mezzo-soprano Claire Stollack-Gustavsson and violinist Heather Zimmerman. 163 Wood St., Lewiston, Maine. 207-786-6381. www.bates.edu/dancefest
THE YARD This ambitious 35-year-old Martha's Vineyard festival stretches from June 26 into mid-September. Two performances make the trek especially worthwhile. July 25 and 26, The Yard presents a reconstruction of the landmark 1979 masterpiece "Dance" by legendary choreographer Lucinda Childs, with music by Philip Glass and the original restored film by Sol LeWitt. July 17-19, "Paradigm: Dance Legends in Concert" showcases the eloquence and depth of the mature dancer, featuring performances by such luminaries as Carmen de Lavallade, Gus Solomons Jr., Michael Blake, and Hope Clark. Middle Road, Chilmark. 508-645-9662. www.dancetheyard.org
MASS MOCA The most promising event of this summer's dance programming at Mass MoCA is the prospect of seeing Project Bandaloop cavort atop, between, and down the walls of the museum's 19th-century buildings and courtyards. "The Intimacy of Spectacle: a site specific reaction" (Aug. 21-23) explores the relationship between movement and gravity. 1040 Mass MoCA Way, North Adams. 413-662-2111. www.massmoca.org
