Three years ago, three Boston University grad students came up with a bright idea to show off Boston’s contemporary art scene. They created an organization called Boston Young Contemporaries, and this year’s “Boston Young Contemporaries Exhibition’’ highlights work by more than 70 emerging New England artists. Painting, photography, prints, video, and sculpture are represented by students from BU, Massachusetts College of Art and Design, Brandeis University, University of Massachusetts at Amherst, Rhode Island School of Design, School of the Museum of Fine Arts, and more. Tonight’s opening is 6-8 p.m. (through July 26). Free. 808 Gallery, 808 Commonwealth Ave., Boston. 617-777-3858. www.bostonyoungcontemporaries.com
