Before the wrecking ball, high-rise apartment buildings, and that “If you lived here you’d be home now’’ sign, the West End was a thriving immigrant neighborhood. Boston artist Evelyn Berde, a former West Ender, pays tribute to her old neighborhood in “Leaving the River.’’ The multimedia art installation includes paintings, sculpture, photos, period furniture, clothing, and reminiscences by other former residents. Today from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. (through Dec. 3). Free. Arnheim Gallery, Massachusetts College of Art and Design, South Building, 621 Huntington Ave., Boston. 617-879-7550. www.massarted.org
