The Back Bay Fens are Carroll’s playground. “No one blinks at me, and I’m in the trees,’’ he says. He explores Frederick Law Olmsted’s landscape and his own uneasy relationship to nature, crafting wooden sculptures and developing a character based on archetypes of men in the woods. He took a goose decoy into the Fens to make videos. The real geese attacked. “It turns out geese hate geese decoys,’’ he says. “There’s a friction between the park system and the city, and this is the perfect metaphor for the collision.’’

Coming up: Shows at fivesevendelle gallery in Mission Hill May 14-30 and at Grizzly Grizzly in Philadelphia in the fall. Information: www.christophercarroll.org
