Six to see
Kerri Ammirata, 26
Painter, printmaker, Boston University
Ammirata borrows much of the imagery for her abstract woodblock prints and paintings from patterns in nature. “I’m trying to get this repetition, like the beat of my heart,’’ she says. She started to meditate this year, and the practice has affected her work: “In meditation you can’t just stop all the thinking all the time. You notice the thoughts. Notice the patterns when they come up.’’
A process-oriented artist, Ammirata reacts to what she sees as she works and admires the philosophy behind Australian Aboriginal paintings. “They are part of the creation of the world,’’ she says. “I’m creating me as well as the work.’’
Coming up: A yearlong artistic residence at Hub-Bub in Spartanburg, S.C. Information: www.kerriammirata.com![]()
